When collapsed it is just over ten inches long. When pulled out and with the adjustable eyepiece in use, and the sun shade extended, the scope is over 21 inches long!
The scope is shorter when all features are not fully deployed. The unit is not a little scope and is steady to hold and quick to focus. We see no scratches on the glass. No fog, no mold, just clear viewing. We recently refreshed the scope and wiped it down. It looks great and works very well.
Great to take on excursions of any type. In the vehicle or the backpack. Very good optics and clarity.
The large 80 mm objective lens allows a lot of light to enter the scope which makes this an excellent tool for very long distance low-light viewing. The black cylinders collapse inside each other for compactness and the rubberized armor protects the unit from the elements and mishaps. There is a mount on the bottom so you can choose to either mount it on a monopod or a tripod. We typically use this one by hand and by using a tree, a chair or a car door window frame while seated, to steady the scope when using it for it maximum distance viewing. You can capture car license plates at distance, identify birds in very far away trees, closely observe Elk, bear, dear, Whales, Dolphins, etc. See the many pictures for detailed description which show super small /tiny rub marks on two cylinders, or barrels, in the black finish and in the sun shade as indicated with our thumb and a toothpick. These are primarily located at the site of the locking set screws and are normal. This has zero affect on the unit and all of the glass surfaces look great. The lens hood sun shade is a little tight to draw out but we extend it often. Locking set screws are present in several locations if you ever need to separate and clean, etc. Locks down tight and pulls out firm and smooth. A very well made spotting scope. This comes with the original leather cylindrical carry case and strap shown in the pictures. It is Olive green color. It is getting difficult to find good quality spotting scopes like this in the USA for a decent price. Straight view scopes have always been more popular in Europe. Thank you and good luck.
